I have a farmall 656 but think the water pump is bad. It runs about 180 degrees. when I shut it off it goes to 200-210. Is this normal? I looked in the radiator and couldn't see any antifreeze moving. don't want to replace it if I don't have to. It cost $130.00. Thanks for your help.

TB,

It is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

When the water pump goes, you'll know it; it will either start to leak and/or the tractor will start to heat.

The reason the temp is going up after you shut it off is because the system isn't cooling anymore and all that hot iron of the engine is raising the coolant temp. All engines do this. Plumb normal.

What you are seeing is normal.

One other thing besides leaking to check on a water pump is to loosen the belt that drives it and check for wobbling of the shaft. If it wobbles much at all, replace it the bearings are going bad. Water pumps can also sometimes make slight grating noises just before they fail.

Sounds normal to me. As long as it don't overheat when you are working it, I wouldn't worry.
