Have a 84 series Ih tractor, with the hydraulic oil bath type disc brakes. When both peddles are applied the brakes work great every time (or so it seems). When the peddles are seperated and applied seperately the right, especially, will go all the way down and stop slowly or not at all. The left does the same thing, but very intermittenly. Any ideas?

Are we talking about a Doncaster produced tractor?

If you are talking about that it was made in England, then yes.

First of all very carefuly bleed the brakes, run the engine at fast tickover (about 1000 rev/min)for about 5 min, keep the engine running. Connect 2 bleed tubes to the nipples on top of the brake housings put the ends of the tubes in the trans filler plug, with the pedals latched together SLOWLY pump the brakes untill air is bled out of one of the nipples, close that nipple and carry on untill the other side runs clear. It is important to keep the engine running and pump the pedals slowly or you will not get complete fill of the master cylinders, keeping the pedals latched together will ensure that the balance valve is cleared of air, topping up of the master cylinders is done automaticly by the return oil from the oil cooler circuit.Let me know if matters improve or not, I will talk to you again tomorrow (past bed-time in England!)

Thanks Richard. I will try that tomorrow. I thought it was like an auto, where you pumped it up and held it, then released the pressure. I will do it the way you have laid it out. I will post the results tomorrow. I am a little pre-occupied,as my youngest son and family went to Disney World, and are in Daytona Beach as I write this post.
