I'm looking at a 484 industrial tractor. The transmission has a knock in the section between the engine and the main transmission when the main trans is in gear and the shuttle is in neutral with the clutch out with the engine at is's lowest idle. The knock is consistent and louder in the higher gears. You can feel the knock when you put your hand on the case side. increasing the engine idle about 50 rpm makes the noise go away. The noise is not noticeable drivving the tractor. any thoughts or advise is appreciated. Gene

We have a 484 with the same noise. Been this way for probably 20 years. Doesn't seem to be a problem.

TDK, will you email me at purser @ netdoor. com (remove spaces) with your phone number and the best time to call you about the 484? I'd really apprreciate it. Thanks, Gene

Hi, my brother has a 454 with about 15000 hrs on it and it has the same knock or rattle especially if the range transmission is in 3rd or 4th gear and the Hi/Lo/Rev is in neutral. The speed transmission is in the section between the clutch housing and the part by your feet is the Hi/Lo/Rev range transmission but in your case it will be the shuttle shift. He also has a 684 with about 6000 hrs and it has the same knock/rattle but not as noticable as 454. The 454 has had this niose for years and it doesn't appear to be a problem. I think it is a characteristic of this transmission.

My 2 cents.
JB
