I am bringing home my F-20 and its main problem that need to be worked on is no compression. I have been told the valves are stuck open. Is this possible. As far as I know it hasn't run in 20yrs at least but the motor turns over fine. ANd the gear shift is stuck in neutral. Thats better that in gear!! Thanks Shaggy

I would also check to make sure the oil lines are clear including the distributor for the pan. This may require removing the pan but I learned this the hard way - I burned our a rod bearing that was not getting oil in the splash trough.

pretty common to have some stuck valves. pull the rocker arm cover. (Rice has the new gasket) and crank the motor over to see if they go up and down. You might be able to get them freed up by tapping and prying up on the spring. use lots of you favorite penetrating oil.

Yes, valve are frequently stuck in the open position.

I would pull the head, leave the valve springs on, soak the valve stems in solvent for several days, then rap lightly on the stuck valves with something soft (wood). Continue until all valves are free.

You can do this without removing the head, just remove the rocker arms and soak with solvent - rap.

Pulling the head will let you look at the cylinder walls, valves, etc. - I'd pull the head.
