We just bought a 1963 IH 240 Utility tractor with front end loader and backhoe. I know NOTHING about these things except how to run them. Would be interested in a knowledgeable individual in the Northern Nevada area who would be willing to evaluate the unit (we know the steering is poor), make maintenance and repair recommendations and perhaps an estimate? Don't worry, we expect to pay you for your time. We live in Carson City. Thanks!

I hate to sound like a smart a$$ but if you don't know how to maintain it, you realy don't know how to operate it. Keeping it in shape is part of that job and you need to learn it. Get any books you can find and study them. Ask questions here. Run the machine and when things break because you neglected to check them you will learn. It might be an expensive lesson at times but it is worth it. Just because some of us never went to college don't mean we never paid tuition.

That isn't smarta$$, that is correct and good advise. Dutch uncles are those who set their friends on the right track; sometimes things just need to be said, so go ahead and say them.

There is a lot more to operating a piece of machinery than starting it up and moving forward and back. You have got to know how to protect it and yourself from negligent damage.

Ask your friends, we're here to help.
