i know the 06's a notorious for shifting hard. when i bought mine last year i was very surprised with how well i shifted. about halfway through haying this summer though it started to get alittle harder and now it is flat out a bear to shift between hi/low/nut/rev. 1/2/3/4 still smooth as can be. is there anything i can do? switching to 56 series shifting is not an option right now because of lack of funds. is there anything i can lube or check? i've had to resort to using my old WD more cause i dread shifting that 706.

We just had the same problem with our 806. Speed trans. shifted fine, but the range trans. would only shift reverse, neutral, and halfway into low. Under the range transmission cover(underneath the operators platform)there is a ball and cam/detent assembly which keeps the shifter in a gear when you shift. On ours, the whole assembly was wore out and the roll pin that held it on the shaft was broken. Basically, the whole assembly was binding when we tried to shift.
We fixed the problem and now it works fine. Another thing I did was to adjust the transmission brake which is simply an arm with a pad that slows down the rotation of the gears when the clutch is depressed. It is under the belly of the tractor directly below the brake pedals. Adjust this according to the manual. It could need a new pad if the one you have is totally wore out. This is just my experience. Hope this helps you out.
