Rear Wheel Weights

I got myself two sets of rear wheel weights for my M at auction for $45.00 a piece. Now I want to bolt them up. I've read here that you can use 1/2" threaded rod to bolt them on but that seems kind of lite. What did IH use when bolting them on from the factory? Do I use 2 long bolts or 4? Do I bolt one set on and then the other to the first, or go through both weights with one bolt. Thanks for any advice.

I always bolt the first set on using 2 shorter bolts. Then I bolt the second set on with an additional 2 longer bolts through both weights and center hub in the 2 empty holes. This works quite well. I have done this on 8 different tractors. You can also remove one set at anytime.

I bought 2 sets also for my m. I used 4 bolts, 3/4 fits just perfect in the holes, i got them 8 in long, my brother and i put them on. It dont matter if you use 4 bolts or 2. If your doing it by yourself then bolt on on first. they weigh 145lbs. They make the tractor look cool.

Thanks for the info FarmallKid. I thought 1/2" seemed kind of lite. If I use 3/4" bolts like you said, can I bolt one on and use the same bolt with another nut for the second weight?

Ya that would work, I got 8in long bolts, i could have went with 9in, cause a couple of the bolts, the end of the bolt is flush with the end of the nut, i would like a bit stickin out but owell. If you want to bolt one on first than i would get 10in bolts, that way you can have a nut on the first weight and on the second, I also used washers on the inside of the hub and on the outside of the weight were i put the weight on, i put lock washers on the outside to were they would fit. I dont think the tractors came from the factory with weights, they could have bin a add on at the dealer. Hope this helps.
