Super C repower question

I have a 1953 Super C that needs more hp for mowing. I was told by a local fellow that the guts from an IH 203 combine motor would fit in my SC block. Is this true? Does anyone have a motor if this is correct?

Just a thought: Not sure what kind of "mower" you are using, but with a rotary mower (like a push or riding tractor), slightly dull blades require a lot more horse power to cut the same amount of grass than sharp blades. Maybe a little attention to the blade edge would prevent a lot of un-necessary engine work.

From the research i have been able to come up with, The 203 combine has a c-153 engine, and of coarse the C is a 135. The 153 is a bored out 135, no sleeves. It was used in the 504 tractor and I believe the 444. I've been looking into them to repower a backhoe with a bad block. The only other problem you may have is there are two different bell housing configerations. One round and one slope sided and flat topped. There was a c-135 out of a 340 forklift on ebay recently that was the flat topped variety. Having sleeves the C-135 is rebuildable over and over but the 153 engine has to be rebored and oversize pistons fitted. Hope this helps Gary

I thought the C was a 113, and the Super C was a 123.

I stand corrected on the C and Super C. I was thinking it was the same as the 330/340. Wrong. but the rest of the info is correct I believe.

The C is a 113 and the Super C is a 123. Overbore kits make them 133.

I know a person who put a C-135 engine in a Super A. Said it was a direct bolt in. I think it would be also on a Super C. The C-135 is governed at a higher RPM than the C-123, so your ground speed in each gear will increase, but you will nearly double the HP. According to my parts info, the C-135 engine was used in the 203 combine, so you could just switch the complete engine. I don't think the guts would transfer to the Super C but I have not done enough research to be sure about that.

Thanks Haas for the info. There is a guy here that direct bolted that motor into a B. However, on the combine motor there is a notch for the starter in the bell housing. I was wanting to keep the stock appearance for a few antique pulls--need to teach those green and yellow boys a lesson or two. I was mainly concerned about the crank and rods fitting while using a high dome overbore kit for the pistons. Possibly even use the cam out of the combine. I am using the tractor with a 6 ft finish mower and it doesn't perform quite up to my expectations. Can never have enough hp! Thanks again.

If you double the HP on your super C you’re asking for other problems. The tractor was designed for the HP it put out from the factory. If you start making it components handle more power then they were designed for, you’re going to shorten their life and potentially create more problems then you started with.

The tractor drive train is pretty robust. I don't think the added power will cause any problems.
