still IH to the core, drive a red pickup and wear red underwear. But today along with a parts M and a cute little Massey Ferguson lawn tractor I bought a restored John Deere G. Just needed something green around the place I guess. I used to love to fix the old iron up but anymore it seems easier to buy them ready to go.

Cowman, the reason there are so many colors of tractors is so that you can own 1 or 2 of each color. This is the age of diversity, you know. Discrimination is out. We are to appreciate the positive attributes of all tractors and people without biases. So far, I've got a red Farmall, 2 green Deeres, a grey Case, a grey Twin City, and a rusty MH that was originally green. Still need orange, blue, and gold. Good luck with your new addition.

Gary, Thats a pretty harsh penalty you're suggesting there. Don't you think that you could let him keep his computer and just take away his rollerskating privileges for a month?

Only green I've got is a JD chainsaw, circa 1968. Got 3 JD Liquifire snowmobiles, but they're black. My tractors are Ford grey, IH red and Case yellow & red. Implements everything from blue to red to white to rust. I love 'em all.

Cowman, I too am red to the core although I don't wear red underwear. I don't restore tractors, but I do have the three left from my farming days. I grew up in the 40's and 50's on a dairy farm in Southwest Missouri, a large field was 40 acres, had a lot of 20's and 10's some 5's. I had an Uncle that retired and came by to his part of the family farm, he started with a real slick M he bought while he lived in Tx. then he bought one of those pale green tractors from Ger. I must say it was real easy on fuel, but other than that I didn't care for it much. If I had the extra money I would like to have a J D just because Ido love to hear them run. I have a good friend who's sister ended up in Coldwater, Ks. on a wheat farm, his older Bro. went out one year to help with the harvest, when he was a teen ager. Then he stayed to help sow the new crop. Cliff told me they took him out to a section one morning with a John Deere G and a 6 ft. one way, he said the weeds were pretty tall. He said he started at 8:00 AM his bro in law told him some one would be there at noon to get him, he said he liked a bout 300ft. on the first round when they came after him.

So what's the problem? I brought home a MM UTU a year ago to keep my red tractors company and I'm still here!!

Seriously the G is a good ole' tractor - love their bark when they're working hard!

Those hard core IH fans in My area call them there "tractors FROGS IN THE GRASS" You had better make sure you keep the lawn and feilds mowed so you dont loose her. To tell you the truth I would not pass up any color at the right price..JON

Cowman, To bring home a JD G, warrants no apology or even an explaination, rather it demonstrates that you are a man of limitless boundries. Now maybe if you posted the same thread on the John Deere forum, you may get a far different opinion, as I have found a lot of JD people to be JD pureists to the point that they have no room in their world for anything of a different color (we're speaking of tractors of course). My pipe dream is to one day have all the Farmalls and McCormicks that fascinate me, and then add, for good measure, a D-4 Caterpillar as icing on the cake. I'm sure I wont be around that long, but its sure nice to daydream. Good luck with the JD G. Its fun just to drive one and in addition to listening to that Put-tut...Put-tut sound, you get to operate that hand clutch. That becomes a real adventure when backing up to something and trying to get close to the target with the front end bouncing, and the tractor lunging 8 inches when you only wanted to move 2 inches.

Cowman, I am Green...with jealousy, although all I have right now is IH red. I grew up driving a Case SC and a John Deere G. What great tractors, especially the G. If I could hide one in the barn from the wife, I would have one myself.

NC,

The JD G is fine.

But dog-gone-it! Still somewhat choked up & watery-eyed over what you had to pay for that 'lil sweetheart Gleaner, tho.

That just had to be the deal of the century! :>)

Cowman: I live here in the middle of MH land. I'd be willing to bet there are 50 (restored to some degree) Massey Harris tractors within 5 mile radius. Those guys also have a mix or at least a couple of them do. My understanding is 50 years ago there was an excellent MH dealer in this area. You can see where that changed to IH in the 60's and 70's, then to green and now blue.

There are a couple of green guys that make more noise than all the MH guys put together. The result is, I wear two different colored hats. I have both an IH and a Farmall red hat (two hats) I also have a green hat I wear in the presence of Deere guys. My green hat has yellow and red as well. Don't be surprised if I lug home a Super 77 diesel.

Tim: Actually I was born and lived 59 years in Nova Scotia. About three years ago my good wife and I moved to SW Ontario, as our children live here and we thought the center of the continant would be a good adventure. We had seen just about every side road in the Maritimes. Thus to see new country, it was 500 miles of the same drive every time. Here 500 miles can take you to a lot of country. Why 500 miles would even take me far enough to scold Cowman in person. Now I wouldn't do that, but I would like to meet him. I did find out last year that of the graduates of the NS Agricultural College, Class of 62, I now live further west than anyone else. So I'm not sure I'm considered an Easterner anymore.

I have been noticing that name, Tim from NB, what part of New Brunswick. Don't be afraid to spell out one of those 16 cylinder place names NB is so famous for. I was born in Middle Musquodoboit, NS. See it comes easy.

Lol!!! I had to look Musquodoboit up on the map! It must be around Musquodoboit Harbour which is outside the Halifax area. I live in a town outside of Saint John called Grand Bay-Westfield. Used to be just the village of Westfield but a forced amalgamation(SP?) with the town of Grand Bay, hence the name.

Only 3 years from eastern Canada-Still an Easterner! You must still come back for visits now and then though.

Tim: Middle Musquodoboit is actually about 25 miles inland from the Harbour. You should see the Musquodoboit River which empyies into the ocean at Musq. Harbour. The river goes directly inland for about 12 miles then swings right or northeast, running paralell to the Halifax- Colchester county line about 5 to 10 miles from the county line.

I know roughly where Westfield is, I've been to Saint John and beyond many times. Your up river about 5 miles if I remember correctly. Used to be a ferry across the river Westfield to Gondola Point. I suppose highway systems have eliminated that one.

I see Middle Musquodoboit now!! Just had to look closer!

You're right about the five miles up for Westfield.

The ferry at Westfield is still there but it crosses to Hardings point! The Westfield side is called Brundage (sp?) point. My Grandfather owned the land at Brundage point at one time. Sold it to the Government to make the warf for the river boats and later the ferry. My sister lives in the old house.

The Gondola point ferry is a different one. It is still there too. The Gondola point ferry crosses the Kennebecassis river to the Kinston Pennisula. I betcha a lot of people have never seen a cable ferry before!!

There are other ferry's that cross the river in different spots that are cable ferry's too.

Tim: Those old cable ferries, had a few of them in NS also. They work great until the cable breaks.

Now your getting into those 16 cylinder names NB is so famous for. Names like Pennobsquis, Memramcook, Quispamsis, Petitcodiac, just to name a few.

When I moved here I crossed the new double bridge 4 lane crossing just south of Fredricton. That is quite a bridge, they didn't spare many nickles on that one. None of this nonsence crossing the river at 90 degrees. That bridge must be 2 miles long, to cross a 500' river.

I'll say this about New Brunswickers, they may have been one of the last places in North America to get divided 4 lane highways, but they caught onto them quicker than anyone else. A New Brunswicker will come off an on ramp to the highway at 110 Km per hour (70mph) every time, no pussyfooting around getting up speed after he is in traffic.

Have you ever gotten on a John Deere M or MT? If you haven't, try it, and your opinion will change quickly. My great-grandfather bought one new, and my grandpa tells me that he cussed it every time he got on and off.
