Anyone here know what would have been the original tire size, or was there a choice? Mine's got a loader on it, and has newer front tires, look a bit wider than stock to me. It has 15.5-38 rears, and the whole machine looks like it's climbing a hill! It's a gas job if that would have made a difference.

You don"t say what size your fronts are. 7:50 x 16 and 15.5 x 38 were standard sizes. Others were optional.

I never checked the size on the fronts. Since they are in almost new condition and the rears are really checked and one is leaking, I was looking to see if they were even the right size, or if I should be looking at something taller. If I'm going to have to break one down anyway to fix a leak, which may mean a new tube, I'd just as soon do both and not have another problem the next day or something. My rears are probably original, a new set now would quite likely outlast me.

Stick: The 666 probably came from factory with the 15.5x38, however you will find if you change to 16.9x38, it will put the tractor up so it looks right. You will also see a marked increase in your traction. I did this with both my 560 and 656 and you just wont believe the difference until you make the change. Gives the tractor about 2.5 to 3 inches more ground clearence under drawbar. When I first made the change I was just trying to get more ground clearence for haybine and round baling.

Those tractors were under tired, plus that 15.5x38 has quite a low profile. The 14.6x38 actually gave better ground clearence.

I have seen a few guys go to 18.4x38. I drove one of those and thought it robbed power a bit too much. There is a trade off.

Thanks, Hugh. They may well be the original rears, as they are REALLY weatherchecked, both about the same. One's got a slow fluid leak too, so it may be almost time to give it some new feet!

Stick: Now is the time to make the move, get those rims cleaned up while their still good. I used the rims that came on my 656 when I made the move. 560 had narrower rims when new so I put those on my 300 and bough new set of 15" for 560. 14" will work, 15" are ideal for 16.9x38 tires.
