1953 Super C with 1955 Block?

The serial number on my Super C dates it to 1953. But the stamping on the engine is the letter A which dates it to 1955. How is this so? I could see if it were the other way around because I know they let castings sit for a while before finishing them. Is it possible the first owner blew up the first engine and had to get a replacement, or is there some other explanation?

Alot of tractors running around with replacement blocks, it"s not that uncommon. Your Super C should have block casting number 354898R1 or R2 (cast behind the oil filter). I think we determined that the early hundred series tractors (out in late "54 and "55) still used 354898 but they were up to R3.
