Shep: Now this may seem like a fair trade. I tried to get my dad to buy an Oliver Super 77 diesel in 1955, rather than the Farmall 300. I farmed a good bit of my life with 16 Farmalls, 1 Cockshutt, 1 Deere and two Case skid loaders. Never really did get that Super 77 out of my system. Today I am retired with three Farmalls, Super A, 130 and 140. If I buy another old tractor it will be a Super 77. I may want to know some info in the future. Back to your H purchase, you will find many of the same simple features on the H as on your 140. About the only item other than offset, significantly different are the hydraulics. When it comes to wrenching and repairing, you will very quickly see these two tractors are related. The other item to remember is the Farmall H is the second highest production tractor ever built. Surpassed only by the Ford 8N. If you consider IH at that time was also building the A, B, C, M and of course W series whereas Ford was building but one model, I don't think their claim to fame is that great. Probably each and every one of Oliver, IH, JD, Case, Allis and MH were building more tractors than Ford in the 40s and 50s. I think Henry's biggest claim to fame is he did give value for money, while the others did build a complete line of tractors. Good luck with the H, and remember I wear two different colored baseball caps depending on the ocasion. I have a red one, and my green one has red as well as yellow. Got to get out to an old iron show, my hats are getting a bit worn, need some new ones. I always wear my green hat to a Deere event.
