I have a 1958 Farmall 240 tractor (two-point hitch) according to it's serial number. I am looking at selling it but have no idea what it is worth. It has not been used for about 7 years. It has always been kept under cover. Original paint is dull, tires in bad shape. Some restoration needed. Attachments include sub-soiler, blade, and cultivator. Located in Central Virginia.

How do you tell if it is a utility tractor or not? It has internal hydraulics. Plate says Model 240, serial #1426J.

Easiest is probably check the rear tire size. 24" would be a Utility, 36" would be a row crop(Farmall) model.

More detail, does it run, dents in sheet metal, do hydraulics work?, etc. If it has been inside, I assume it is not stuck. 240's are an improved version of the C thru 230, and will bring more if in good condition. The C for example will bring $1000-$2000 ($2000 definitely the high side, or should be) in operating condition, perhaps with an average of $1500. A 240 in the same condition as the $1500 C would probably bring $2000-$2200. If it does not run, the price drops drastically.

Also - is it a utility model? In running condition as you described a 240U (even with no remote hydraulics) will bring $2000 on a decent day. If its row crop a lot depends on th person looking.
