when I purchased my SA it had a homemade battery box mounted to the left side of clutch housing. I am back to original but do not yet have a battery box. How are the cables routed originally?
What is the original battery configuration? eg. pos/neg on the same side or opposite? pos. front right? Thanks for the help!

Mike: I will give you a bit of a tip. I know and can appreciate you are looking for original specs, in which the pos ground cable hooks to the dash panel-battery box. As these tractors get older that dash does not give very good ground. On my tractors, I eliminated a lot of problems by running the ground cable to one of the bolts that hold transmission top down. Get that ground right on cast, you'll have a much better ground. In my years of farming, I found that tractor sheet metal does not give you very good ground. IH was famous for doing just that.

I just made a gap in left rear side of battery box, much the same as the one in right front corner, fitted it with a rubber gromet, and the cable goes nicely down out side of box and back to left front transmission top bolt.

Mike, The battery box was originally located just foward of the steering post electrical panel and just behind the touch control. There are four tapped holes on the torque tube that are used for L-brackets that support the battery box. I believe the positive terminal goes to the rear of tractor and attached to ground and the negative terminal is foward and goes to the starter. Hope this helps. You can still buy that box.

OK I got that but what I really need are the specifics. Does the neg to starter run under the tank? Does it run under the starter? And where, to which bolt, was the pos ground connected? A picture might be worth a thousand in this instance.

Standard group 1 battery. Ground cable (+) is short - 6" and grounds under one of the bolts that run from inside the battery box to the electrical panel. The hot cable makes a fairly straight shot forward.
