I've found a farmall 340 that is pretty clean, w/ 12v electric. At the moment, I'm trying to keep up with about 200 acres of trees, and 40 acres of hay and 10 cows with a Ford 800. They guy wants $3500 for the tractor, a 7ft blade and a 6ft bush hog (I haven't seen the mower, but would bet it's not a Bush Hog brand) and am looking for some advise. Thanks

Thank you for all your help. I got there to meet the guy on friday about noon and he had sold it at 10. Day late and a dollar short I reckon. THanks again for you help, I'll wander over to the Ford side and see if I can find some info about my 800.

I purchased a Farmall 340 row-crop in January. It has the TA. To use the TA, when moving, pull back on the TA lever steadily, not snapping it back, and you should notice more power/pull to the tractor. Don't use the clutch when doing this. Reverse the process to get the tractor out of TA mode. Just a steady movement of the lever it all it takes. From comment I have read and heard first hand, fast-hitch implements are hard to come by. You can get arms and top-link and use three-point implements. Is this tractor narrow (row-crop) or wide front end? I have found the row crop to be a little light in the front end. I have a two-bottom plow, model 211 - I think, for fast-hitch and would consider selling it. I live south of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Keep the Farmall board posted on your Friday plans, and good luck.

If the TA works it sounds pretty good. The blade and the mower are worth $600 - $1000, means your paying $2500 - $2900 for the tractor not at all bad for LPTO and L hydraulics.

Thank you for the reply, but at the risk of sounding dumb (something I'm getting pretty used to by now), what is the TA? I figured out the live pto and hydraulics, and I searched for TA in the archives and lets just say I've can't recall hearing those initials in relation to tractors. BTW, I'm going to go see the guy on friday and get it started up. It has a 12v system, and a 2pt hitch, something I'm not real familiar with having spent most of my tractor driving on a Ford Jubilee, 4000 and 800.

monty, TA stands for torque amplifier and is a mechanical supplemental transmission unit, the control lever is located on the left side just in front of the clutch pedal

Do all 340s have a Torque amplifier? I saw those letters along with some model names. Is there a way to "test" the TA? And thanks yooper for the information.
