I probably should have put this in the off topic spot but the most intelligent people in the world are right here,so here it goes. I have a 94 grand caravan 3.3l it keeps throwing the driver side axle out(3rd time) I have adjusted the motor mounts all the way over to compensate but it still jumps out. I have measured this way and that way and there is no frame damage, everything measures right except the whole engine is shoved to the passenger side about an inch and a half. I just recently bought this van and I asked the previous owner about this and he had an axle come unglued on him,he had one put in at a gas station and it was fine for the next 2 years till I bought it.now I shelled out 2 in 1 day,one in the driveway. I have a manual and the manual gives axle max and min lengths and it says to do exactly what I did. I am lost, I hope someone here has seen something like this before. Any suggestions?????

e-mail me your vin number and i can at least give you a part number for the right axle. i work for a dodge dealership. the axle should not be just falling out. it's either the wrong axle or you have some big problems elsewhere.

p.s.
when you say right side axle you mean the passenger side right?

Maybe a wheel alighment would reveal something.
or if the motor only is shifted the drivers must be closer than it should be. Can't be good when
the axle pops out. Maybe the transaxle drive spline is damaged. Truck must have been wrecxked.
Need to get the motor back in position.

It does'nt come out of the transaxle,it comes apart in the inner joint because the shaft is'nt long enough.

I gotta agree with Loren. Presuming the correct axle part number was installed, only front end body distortion causing the engine to be shifted beyond spec to the passenger side would cause that.

Double check the axle shaft assembly number however. I"ve owned a couple of these vans and have replaced several drive shaft assemblies. There"s different shaft lengths depending on the particular engine/transmission combination. Also the drive shafts differ slightly between manufacturers (Citroen or GKN). It"s possible you are not using the correct shaft assembly...

One of the replacement axles was a citroen(round inner joint) and the others were gkn axles(3 bumps on inner joint) all measured the same compressed length but the gkn was a little longer extended. The other side that is original is a gkn axle. Funny thing is the citroen(shorter axle ) held up longer before it flew apart in Orielly's parking lot of all places. I sent casey an email with the VIN,maybe he can find out something for me.

Bettin it is a wreck repair gone wrong. in reply to Chris Brown, 08-03-2004 18:23:16
Look inside the engine compartment very carefully for any signs of inconsistency from side to side. Any little bends that don't look like they should be there maybe a spot where the paint is cracked. Usually you can find something that shows up. Hope I'm wrong.
