This could cause a firestorm of controversy, but I use 10W-30 in all my old equipment. Ease of starting on the light oil, protection when warm on the heavier side. For my older, haven't had a wrench on them in years engines, one quart of Rislone goes in in place of one quart of oil. It helps "freshen" the seals and gaskets, valve guides, etc.

Lubes are so much better now than way back when. I'm having decent luck with this method. Hope this works as well for you.

Good idea, UFO man. And your 10W-30 is far superior to the old SAE 30 oils from back in the F20 days. The old oil commercial about most of the engine wear happening during warmup is true. You can use a heavier oil and maybe have "slightly" less wear during warm operation, but you'll more than pay for this during warmup with a heavier oil.
