After reading all the forum and forum archives I bravely went out to get my serial to find out the year of my 300U. After writing it down I checked it against the 55 & 56 start numbers. What I wrote down isn't anywhere near the numbers I found on this site. These numbers are 360486-R2 and are on the right side below the steering box and are part of the casting. Below that number is a tag that has the numbers 6 8 but they don't match anything I can find.. HELP!!

Serial tag is on right side of clutch housing, near the sediment bowl (gas engine).

Thanks for the info. I looked on the left of the steering box but didn't find anything. I'll get my manuals out and make sure I'm looking at the steering box but it sure looks like a steering box to me. Again thanks

The serial number for the 300U is on the right side of the tractor between the fuel filter and oil filter.

Unfortunately, there's always confusion about the utility tractor being different from the row-crop (Farmall) version.

The number 360486-R2 is a part number. I believe that the serial number tag is on the clutch housing on the left side of the tractor. At least that is where it is for the H's and M's. The 300 is the new and improved version of the H. You may find a date code on some of the castings. A 6*14*B would be June 14, 1956. If a part has ever been replaced on the tractor then the cast date on that part will not match the date of the tractor. Just something else you can look at.
