I have a 1950 farmall MD. It has been a great tractor for 20 years but the last time i changed the oil i found a (about 1/2 inch)washer in pieces that had gone through a gear as there were a couple of small gear teeth pieces also. I have pulled the oil pan, rocker cover, magneto, injector timing cover and can't find any damage. The tractor still runs great. I am concerned where the washer came from and what damage might happen in the future. Any suggestions where to look? Thanks, Tim

You might want to pull the front engine cover and check out the timing gears.

TIm,

Is it a "shinny" looking washer, or does it look like an old faded original?

What I mean is, could it have been in an oil fill can somewhere along the line and got poured into the engine via the "fill" hole by accident?

Just thinkin' out loud,

Allan

It could be a washer that is bent over the head of the crank bolt. These bolts hold the crank bearing caps in place. They are also to be secured by machanics wire. I would remove the oil pan and look over the crank area. I would NOT run the tractor until I did that first.

Thanks,
Mark
