I have a Farmall M 400 I think it says Super M 400. It hasen,t run for a few years. Here is my question. It has a single wheel in the front, I found a axle with two wheels, which looks like it will fit. It is at an auction tomorrow. I dont see how the stearing works. My tractor the stearing goes down the center of the fornt by the radiator. The axle I am looking at has a shaft (pitman arm?) about 2 1/2 ft. with a bracket with three holes where does this bracket attach. what else do I need to use this front end? The front end is comp and from a farmall. Thanks for any help Stan

A Super M and 400 are two different tractors of the Farmall line as the 400 replaced the Super M. It sounds like you have found a wide front end (WFE) in the "Two wheels and axle". There were original equipment as well as after market WFE's available for both the Super M and the 400. The one you found may or may not bolt up to your tractor as they made different sizes for different tractors. Take good measurements before you head for the sale. You make have to clean out the holes in the bottom of your upper bolster on the tractor to get the measurements.

The mounting appears to be the same four large bolts. What I am concearned about is where the stearing arm with a bracket that has three holes, is connected. This is called a pitman arm I believe. Thanks again Stan

This steering arm (or pitman) connects to the bottom of the steering shaft where the single wheel assembly is now. One of the four bolts is not used for the steering arm when used with a wide front end. There should be a casting with 4 bolts plus 2 support rods to mount the axle assembly to the tractor.
