Brake sticking on Tractor

I was looking at an IH 484 diesel tractor, and applied the parking brake, it held great, but now seems to not disengage even though the flashing lights go off and the handle returns to the down/off position. I now know that it is an internal parking brake, and for the obvious reasons, I did not want to move it while it seems to be still engaged. What can be done externally to get it to release? Thanks.

Hi, there is a cable that goes from the parking brake lever to the side of the transmission. This is your typical metal cable inside a metal sheath and if miosture gets into it rusts and sticks.

Try WD40 or your favourite pentrating oil.

The same thing can happen to the PTO control lever.

Good luck
JB

Hi JB. Thank you for answering. I removed the panel by the brake release to get a better look, and there was a 1/2" stick caught up in the mechanism. Knocked it out, know it works just fine. It's a great little tractor and I am really thinking of buying it.
