'48 cub questions

I'm usually on the 8n board, but sold mine recently (so forgive me if my lingo is a little off). I looked at a cub today that the guy wants $1000 dollars for. It has brand new tires on it, and a new starter and battey. Is this a fair price? It does not have hydraulics, but does have the hand operated lift parts. I want to mow my 4 cleared acres with it, and would need to get a belly mower for it. Can I succesfully mow with this machine with out hydraulics? Or should I look for something else? How much money would I be out to set up a good used belly mower on this thing?

Thanks for the info!
Jonsey

Just paid $700.00 for one. Wasn't running. Came with plow and mower. $1000.00 sounds like a good price.

I bought a cub 24 years ago. It had manual lift and a Woods L59 mower. Paid $1200 and felt like I got a fair deal.Mowed my 5 acres with it for 10 years. Sold it for $2200 back in 90. Wish I still had it.

It probably isn't there any longer. I had to give $875 for a 48 w/o hydraulics that was in pieces. They said that the guy was replacing first gear and after he got it all torn down he died. Tires are definately not new and I have never even heard it run. I'm almost sure that I didn't get all of the transmission parts though.

Wish I had seen yours first.

I bought a cub for $1,000 once but it had hydraulics, a front plow, belly flail, and one bottom. I put rear tires on it and sold for $2,500. Fair price. Guy can still sell for more than that to right buyer. Don't look for a deal like that cause you'll be needing to cut your grass. Describe the condition of that tractor so the guys here can help you determine value. I'd say it's probably worth it if the tin is straight and the motor runs. Depending on you mowing needs you might want a tractor like a Super A with more power and hydraulics.

Ok...more info on the tractor. It is really pretty clean, It has been repainted (ok job, but showing some age again), hood has some dents in it (nothing major), no rust anywhere, starts good, runs good, no smoke, looked like the rear main seal might have been leaking a little, new starter, new battery, all new tires (still have the stickers), one new rear wheel, steering fairly tight, brakes work good, clutch works OK (a little grabby probably due to rear main?). Thanks for the info, Very interesting sites...I'll enjoy pouring over all of the info there.
