Hi Pedro, I received your note. I was glad to help you. The rings that you're going to file,
were they for a 3.875" bore? New standard size rings should have a ring gap close to .010"to.020". It sounds like your rings may be an oversize ring set. Do the new rings fit ok
in the piston grooves? They make a small grinder
for grinding the piston rings ends. Check with your local machine shop. Hal

Hi Pedro, Are these new sleeves and pistons that you're installing? There's a rule of thumb for determining ring gap. For every inch of piston
diameter you multiply by .003. On a Farmall M with a piston diameter of 3.875"X .003= .0116".
This is within the .010" to 020" limits stated in the IH manual.

I never knew where this rule came from, but it is very close to the clearances you need on your ring gaps. Good Luck, Hal

Hi Pedro, According to my IH manual the ring gap should be between .010" to .020" for a Famall M. The manual listed the ring gap on all the Super M's And Super H's and then says all others.

I would double check with your IH dealer. Hope this is helpful. Hal
