Hey all,

I have a 53 stage I Super H. and I will be up in OH visiting her soon. My project this trip is to fix the brakes.

One brake works OK but one (the right if I remember) doesn’t catch until way at the bottom of the pedal and even then it doesn’t catch much.

I have the Operators Manual, and the Parts book, but I have been told there is no Service manual for the Super H (is this really true? The service manual has been invaluable for the M)

I am a good mechanic but new to tractors,

What are some common problems and what should I be looking for, and what parts am I likely to need? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
John NADZam
53 Super H
51 M

(for now……I keep looking for an SWD9, TD9,SM, SMTA, I9 etc. I like big equipment)

No service manual for the Super H, I think there is one for the hydraulics, not sure. Other than that and the brakes it is very similar to the H. The other posts are correct, except that you may need new disks, if you can't clean up the old ones. They are available from your Case-IH dealer, don't cost much, I would suggest getting them before you go as they typically need to be ordered. Also the brake that does not work may have broken where the one of the springs attaches. This can be welded, or a salvage part obtained. All I'm saying is you may run into more than a 1 or 2 hour job. Could just need adjusting, too.

Make sure the shaft is clean, free of rust, etc. Good time to replace the bull pinion seals and brake boots too.

Hey, If your lookin for a SMTA i have a sight for you!! I emailed these guys, and they said a good unrestored smta is $2500-$3500. They might have a super M too, I think it said on the sight, If they dont have it, they will try to find it.

Just clean up the balls and the ramps - might need to replace broken springs that pull the plates back together. Discs usually need the "glaze" buffed off. Not too bad of a job. Hope this helps. Pat H
