I'm about to get an A, and I would like (if I ever do a second restoration) to restore a W-4 tractor and I've heard that is some countries they're almost as common as an H. I'm in Central PA, and, are these an easy find?

Thanx!

It is a shame you arent closer,,I have a really nice w4 for sale, all it needs is paint and a starter rebuild, the starter hasnt worked in a long while, we bought it from the original owners and they crank started it. Runs and drives great, but a pain to start without the starter,,,,Jim

I have a w-4 that I take to shows. I live in Tennessee and you don't see too many W-4s around here. I also have a W-6 and it is a lot nicer to drive and you don't see many of them around here. The W-4 and W-6 are good to restore because a lot of the H and M parts fit them and they are common as dirt. I had to change some gears in the trans. of the W-4 and I used H gears. Go ahead and get the W-4 next and then you will need a W-6 and a W-9 to finish them out. I am looking for a W-9 now but need to find one close and at a good deal. Good luck

What are some of the plusses of the W-4, versus and H?

I've heard the W-4 called the "standard tread version of an H," what would the standard tread version of an M be? Is there one for a C?

M standard is W-6,none for the C.Only advantage I had with my $ was I could go under limbs along the edge of the field with my pull type bushhog.H is to me alot better tractor and it has hydraulics, regualr W-4 doesnt unless its been added.

I far prefer my H to any W4 for driving, as the H can turn much sharper for plowing etc... Also I really like sitting up higher for driving (the H as you know is much taller).---Jeff

Okay, well, I like to be a little lower to the ground, but if i'm right, the w-4 has a lower center of gravity, which, because my land is very hilly, it would be a bit more stable.

Thanks for the replies so far!
They've been a big help

Up here the W4's tend to be much more common than an H. Not a bad tractor though! ---Jeff
