I am trying to set the dwell on my 53 SM and cant quite figure it out I looked in the arcives and found a post that said 60 degrees dwell for a 4 cyl. I cant seem to get anything that low . The average reading I get is 76. Is there a certain RPM to check this at ? As I increase the RPMs it goes down then. Do I open or close the points to get down to 60? JON

If your dwell reading is too high, your points are too far closed; if your dwell is too low, your points gap is too wide.

Set the points at 0.020 on the high side of the cam, and the dwell will be ok. These are not exactly high performance engines.
