I just put a new clutch plate in an auburn clutch on my 48 C, now I can not get the clutch adjusted so it will release. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've never seen a auburn clutch, but I installed a rockford clutch in my super c. I did'nt notice until together that the finger height was wrong. I used a couple thicknesses of hacksaw blades taped together for a feeler gauge between the throw out brg. & fingers to adjust the fingers to the same height. There's not much room through that hand hole in the bottom, but it saves splitting it if that's your problem. Jim

Is the pilot bushing OK, did you replace it? Could also be that the rebuilder improperly set the clutch fingers on the pressure plate.

Lance,
If it can't be adjusted then you probably won't like the answer to the problem.
1. Did the tractor sections assembly easily or were they pulled together with the bolts? They should easily slide together if not things aren't right.
2. I don't know if it is possible on the Farmmal C but could the clutch plate be installed backwards.
Either way if it can't be adjusted most likely you will have to split the tractor again.
I have a Case 580CK Backhoe Tractor I put a clutch in. When I had it all together and tried to move it the clutch wouldn't release. The rebuilder had installed the springs incorrectly. I wasn't happy about splitting it again for someone elses screw up.
Good Luck,
K-Mo

We have had the tractor apart many times trying to adjust the clutch and each time it goes togather easily. It crossed my mind that the clutch plate might be in backwards so I tried turning it around and it does not fit. Before we put the new clutch in the the clutch would drag when you released it and grind when changing gears. We thought this would be easy but can not get the new one adjusted correctly.

OK, that sounds like a possible pilot bushing. Without splitting the tractor, unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel and slide it and the clutch disk back from the flywheel, does it still seem like the clutch won't release??

How do I unbolt the pressure plate from the fly wheel whithout splitting the tractor?
