I would like to know if a 1 wire 10s alternator will work? It is self exciting. I was told it would be better. The present alternator pully wore out and I bought a rebuilt one with 1 wire. The coil I have has a built in resistor, I installed a switch instead of the idiot light. The prior diagram was BOB M'S. It worked fine. Did I make a Mistake by buying the 1 wire alternator? A diagram would Help. I check this page almost daily and It is a great help to me.

Marv - My recommendation is be to exchange that 1 wire unit for a regular 3 wire alternator. It'll cost you less and will provide better performance - especially at startup.

Bob, Thanks for the info.I will try to return the Alternator, and put the switch back in the circuit. I wanted to eliminate the switch so other operators would find it less complicated to run the Tractor.

Replace the switch with an oil pressure switch that requires no attention from the operator,
