Whats a 384?

Local dealer has what he thinks is a 80 384. Says the numbers are unable to read correct. But it is a gas. My book shows only a diesel engine. Doesn't look to me like PS, since the steering goes to left front and right front with seperate rods. Other obvious discription is a large oil filter cover on lower right transmission that leads to the hyd pump. PTO is an assemble (clutch?)with control lever. Is it live? Looks like it would be a nice tractor for what I want except for no PS. Any info is welcome since I am not a IHC person.

the 384s had one arm going to the fornt axle on the left hand side. I expect you could get one without PS, but I've never seen one. In Canada at least, they never made a gas 384. Stopped the gassers in 74 with the 444s. The 384 is a MUCH better starting tractor than the old 414s, ours sits out in the woods in NB Canada, and starts all winter long, down to -25 Celcius no problem.

I am beginning to think that the tractor is not a 384. So much for sales men. Thanks, Kenny

Hi the 384 was the newest version of the B414D. I know there was also a gas version with a B144 engine in it. The ones in Canada came from UK. The ones in US may be assembled in US with some differences. Around 40 HP. The Diesel was a rugged tractor but a bit difficult to start in very cold weather. Required block heater for -10F and below.

Good luck
JB
