My 67 IH 404 has bad rear axle seals. The tires / rims are off, now for the rear hubs. How do they come off? My parts book does not show a snap ring at the outside end of the axle but it looks like there is one. If it is a sanp ring I cant see how to get a hold of it(ends are angled no holes) or that there is any room for it to move anywhere (compress or expand). Seems like the hub should pull off the end of the axle spline. Do i need a bigger hammer??? Thanks for any help.

If it is like the 240 and I remember the 240 correctly, it is pressed on with a LOT of force. I recall a snap ring in the hub that serves as a stop for how far it presses on. It just presses off.

Jim, Right on both counts, the clip is a stop and removal invloves a lot of force. Got one off with heat, puller, sledge, and patience..1/16th inch at a time. Broke the other side and had to cut it off. OUCH they are expensive! Thanks for the help! RLO - MI
