Hi,I am trying to time my 53 super M with a neon light. I have a shop manual. As far as I can tell it only has one timing mark on the pulley not 2 as in manual.I put it at top dead center at idle and she is laboring and doesnt throttle back as good as it did before. So I read farther and I see I should advance it to 4.5 degrees at like 500 rs . How do you tell how far a degree is on the pulley. Am I right to advance it at idle. It has 4" fire crators and a 8060DC head I believe. I heard some where about a advance in the distributor when they put fire crators in I beleve the dealer rebuilt this motor or at least it has all IH parts in it so maybe they did work on that too. along with a 4 weight govener. Does anyone have any info for me? THANKS JON

On here the guys say to turn the distributor until it sounds right. I tried timing my SMTA with a light also. Seemed like where It was right it wasn't running well. You can determine degrees with math. Pi X diameter equals circumference. Divide that by 360 and multiply by 4.5 to get the measurement.
