Thanks fellas. There is an AM mine has AM on the hood where the Big M usually is and on the serial no prefix there is an AM before the FBK. My AM has a cast sump with 2 level taps in it on the right. I also bought an M S/No 946 but I havent got it home yet to compare things.
PS I do live in Bundaberg Queensland Australia and have a workshop within a mile of the Rum distillery. Hair is grey like the bundy Bear and tummy is similar ;) BB.

BB: If it were biult in Britain it would be called a BM. Actually the AM and BM are identical. When you get to the Supers the AM and BM had a factory 3 point hitch as well. The diesels were direct start with glow plugs. Production of those tractors continued some 3 to 5 years after the American built Super M. AM and BM never had an MTA version. After the Super AMD or BMD there was a B-450 and A-450, again same tractor and same sheet metal. Those stayed in production until mid to late 1960's.

Thanks Hugh. Were the tractors made in the USA and modified in Australia and Britan, made different for export or made in 3 countries?
Where did the A or B prefix get put onto the id plate? BB.

BB: There was manufacture and assembly in each country. Just exactly what was done in each country, I'm not quite sure on all. Quite sure the gas engine was US using different electric components. The US diesel engine was gas start. The B and A deisels were all made in Britain. How much castings, gears and sheet metal was done in each country, I don't have the answer. There had to be some, as I think having A and B designation indicates manufacture not just assembly.

Thank you for the information. I learned about the AM that I didn't know before. Good luck with the tractors. I understand about the grey hair and tummy.
