McCormick Deering 1020 Engine Dowels

Hi All,
I have a 1926 McCormick Deering 1020 in which I'm about to pull the engine. I have the front engine mount loose and the transmission disconnected at the split rings. There appear to be two dowels, one on each side about 3/4 inch wide, holding the rear engine mount in place. They are threaded on top with no nut and have no access from the bottom. How does one get these out? Will just pulling the engine straight up force them out? Will they extract by tightening a nut down on them? I don't want to bust or mis-align anything when yanking on the engine.

Try threading a nut down on them, dding some washers first, if possible. They should then pull out.

Greg, I dont own a 10/20 but any dowel that is threaded can be removed by threading a piece of threaded rod into the dowel, maybe a 18 to 24" providing you have the space, and then sliding a steel weight over the threaded rod followed by a washer and a couple of nuts on the other end of the threaded rod. That weight sliding on the threaded rod can generate a lot of pulling power. Also, if you dont have that much space, you can use a bushing just larger than the dowel diameter, and use a bolt and some washers to extract the dowels also. Hope this helps.

Thanks Scotty, a nut with washer worked like a champ. I'd never done it before so didn't want to screw it up, which I'm good at.
