Hi guys, I got me a crank for the ol H and am missing the pin that goes thru the shaft on the front of tractor. I think a roll pin would work if anyone knows the dimensions would appreciate.

I just replaced the pin on the H I am working on now. Someone had sheared the pin off and had been using a vise-grip or pipe wrench to turn it. They had worn a groove around the shaft so I couldn't even find where the pin was. Finally used a punch in several places until I found a spot where the pin moved. As the others said, I just used a bolt (cut off the head and threads leaving about a 1/4 inch on each side) to replace the pin as a standard bolt fits tight in the hole. Roger

i generaly make them out of an old bolt. just find one long enough so you can cut the threads and the head off.

If you look at where the crank goes you'll see. The pin should stick out a little over 1/4 inch on each side, but more won't hurt.

Be careful cranking it, that's a good way to break an arm or rip off your thumb.

Thanks, I just plan on using the crank to adjust valves. But I know of people breaking thumbs and such. Any safety precautions from people experienced in starting tractors this way advice is welcome.

1. Never, ever, EVER wrap your thumb around the crank handle. It's a real good way to get it torn off when the engine kicks back.

2. Always pull UP, never push down on the handle when cranking.

3> Be ready to let go of the crank at any instant.
