Another mower question. How is a belly-mower powered, is it off the live PTO? Also, what is a fast-hitch? Thanks to all for putting up with these rookie questions....

Bill, if you send me an email, I'll send you back some pictures of the setup I recently built.

Bill,

While I have seen a number of belly mowers run with a V-belt pulley on the belt pulley shaft, mine came with a V-belt pulley about 12" in diameter for the PTO shaft. This size pulley gives me the same blade tip speed as a smaller pulley on the belt pulley shaft. There are 2 adjustable idler pulleys mounted on a bracket bolted to the drawbar studs that turn the belt 90 degrees and then down to a pulley on the mower.

I don't think the PTO is live, I think it is a transmission driven type.

Bill, The belly mower is powered off of the belt pulley shaft. If I remember correctly that shaft rotates at 1157rpm compared to the pto shaft that rotates at 540rpm. They use a V-belt pulley mounted on the belt pulley shaft and usually have another idler pulley mounted below before the v-belt makes the turn to the mower.

As far as the fast hitch goes, the Super A would be outfitted with a single point fast hitch. The female point receptacle is raised and lowered with the rear rockshaft. Some of the guys on here would be able to post a picture of that setup. One picture is worth a thousand words!
