Since I mostly work with "Red" tractors I don't know the values of many of the others. I have done some repair work for one of the neighbors and he is wanting to give me a B JD as partial payment. The tractor has been sitting for 8 to ten years and is tight. It appears to be complete, with electric start. It has a cultivator attached. Tires are shot, rims appear to be OK. That's about all I could see through the weeds. He want's $200.00 off the bill. Is this a fair value? Will I get my money back out of the JD? Any feed-back is appreciated.

leon,

First, you say JD "b",if it's got elec.start then it's styled.someone correct me if I'm wrong but 1st yr for elec. start was 1945,slant dash?wide front end?row crop or not?cut or not? Can you see the brass tag w/serial #?should be under mag.right side.Another thing is this site has a great archive for this sort of thing, look at the left column under research and info. You should be able to find everthing you need right down to where it was produced. So the answer to your ? is one one persons junk is another's gold mine.If it were me I'd snatch it up. I have a 1947 "A" and a 44'B flywheel start.I'd trade my wife before either one. Good luck Mike

Don't let the wife know you said that. Wife may not be that warm but she's a heat wave compared to those old girls in the midst of winter in NY.

I don't think you could go wrong on this deal, you will come out good on the deal I'm sure. I always heard Green Tractors are the same color as Money and so are their parts!! Go for it!!

I think the cultivators are worth $200, so I bet it's a good deal. I would think you could resell it for at least $500, depending on tin, and other john deere complications.

From my observations, the Two cylinder JDs generally bring more money than a comparable red tractor, I do not understand why. In your situation, I think the B JD could potentially be worth more than the $200 you would be out. I say go for it.
