I know of a wd6 serial number 546. All the books and information tell me that IH began their serial numbers at 501; and that all the 6-series were listed together. I looked at the engine number which was high and I am sure the motor is original (the early tractors had a single oil filter and a change over mechanism similar to the crawlers), the books tell me that the MD which had the same motor began in 1949 and the wd6 1950 so perhaps this explains the high number. Does anyone know when the first wd6 was produced? Could this be close to the first one?

Thanks.
C Clark

The first WD6 was chassis serial number 516. Do you know what the engine serial number is? it should be marked on a milled pad on the side of the engine.

I will guess at 1939 and one half they started the WD6. I have a 1941 in my back yard

First MD wasn't built until 1941, suspect WD-6 is the same. THe IH Archives will be able to tell you the onth your tractor was built.

What are the 'IH Archieves' and how does one get access to them?
