Answers to my previous post said 310 diesel was longer. Did they make an IH310 diesel? I measured the block and it seams to be the same length as my 282D. How do you tell the difference in the two 310's? The one I am looking at looks almost the same as my engine. What is the engine # prefix? Thanks for any help. doorguy

When IH put the 310 in the 666 and the late 706's , the hood and frame rails were longer in those models as apposed to the previous models.

If its a D301 its the same external size, could be simply transposed numbers, they made a D236/282/301 all same size external, all were glow plug start diesels, if its truly a D310 they were direct start (no glow plugs) also commonly called a german diesel. I cant tell how close they are in size but would be surprised if that close. D236-282-301 would bolt in.

Doorguy,

The 310 is both longer and wider than the 282.

The easiest way to tell 'em apart is that the 310 does not have that big intercooler on the right side of the engine and also, it is direct injected (no glow plugs).

It is a heck of a lot louder too!

Allan

Doorguy the only D310 I ever knew of was the german made. I never meassured the length of the engine but when the 706 came with the D310 the tractor was longer and was no space between the enigne and the radiator but one could see the difference between the c263 and the c291 gas so the D310 must be longer some how. and you will have to lengthen the rails and hood. Can you di it most likly I know of a Dt414 in a SM and the guy said not bad of a job but then he is a auto body man.
