I have an M with a wide front and I want to go to a narrow front. (Don't ask I'm keeping the wide front) My problem is I got the front pedistel and of course my wheels and hubs didn't fit on it. The wide front end uses smaller spindle diameters. So I got a narrow front with the hubs. Ah I figured I'm good now I'll just bolt my rims to the narrow hubs and be done. Nope! The hubs that are on my wide front have a flange that the rim sits against and then you put the bolts and keepers on and squeeze the rim onto the flange. On the hubs that came with the narrow front there is no flange. I think I'm missing something. The book I have shows some other part in there but I can't make it out to well. What do I need? Can I do this? There is also a welded on index on my rims that fits into a slot on the wide front hubs. The narrow front hubs don't have this slot either. Disappointed.

Front spindles are fairly easy to identify, old H thru 350 had coarse threads 3/4", M-450 had 7/8" coarse, 460-656 had 3/4" nf, 560-1586 had 7/8" nf. All with coarse threads had cast wheel and hub intregal, only exception was I (utility) 300-350. All with fine threads had 6 or 8 bolt rims & separate hubs. This applies to tricycle and wide fronts also for each to be factory and parts book correct.

you are going to get sick of buying more stuff! The spindles should have been the same. Maybe your wide front was for an H or 300???

Nebraska cowman, Nope, the guy - pretty knowledgeable - that sold me my old style WFE without wheels made sure I understood the wheels were H size. Doesn't make sense that WFE spindles were smaller than narrow front but 'tis true.

Richard the cheapest way out at this point is to buy front rims with loops. They are the most common rims. Maybe you could swap your rarer rims for the more common loops. Best of Luck my nickel Dick Davis.

The rims and loops are two different parts correct? My rims look like they will fit except for the index welded on in one spot. I think I could just grind it off. It's a piece of steel about 1.5" X 1.5" X about 3/8" welded on the flat in the center of the rim. Can I just go to a dealer and get the loops?

You need front wheels with loops to fit to your narrow front end.
