My 200 after replacing the 6-Volt battery (My father in law done this) He neg grounded the battery. I did not notice untill after using the tractor for 10 minutes. I did notice a burning smell was how I knew something was wrong. I hooked the batt back pos. Ground like it suppose to be and the gage shows a discharge now when running. What could be the problem. Is the voltage reg. fried or could it be something else. Opinions would be appreciated on steps to checking and solving this problem. Thanks in advance and I guess I learned a lesson on this one.

I agree w/ Captaink....try polarizing the generator and see if that cures it. However that you noticed a burning smell is not a good sign.

If polarizing doesn't get it working, punch the link below for a troubleshooting flow chart that should help you figure out exactly where the problem is.

If it is only discharging one or two amps, that is probably the current needed to power the ignition system, indicating that the system is not charging. If you haven't polarized the regulator since corrected the battery polarity try this. If that doesn’t correct the problem, check the generator for charging output and if that checks out then the regulator/cutout.
