Hello!

I wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My name is Frank, and I just bought a '40's Cub that I would like to fix up and use around my little horse farm here in Tallahassee, Florida. My maternal grandad had a Cub which he purchased new in '48, so I always wanted one near in age to that one.

The one I have appears to have sat outside and maybe near the ocean for quite a while. It has rust on every piece, and though it rolls, the engine is seized. I'm even having problems getting the headbolts loose without twisting off.

Anyway, the serial number is #24425, and I was wondering what year that might make it. Also, what's the best place to find the correct parts books, ops manuals, and service manuals. I've refurbed several tractors in the past, so I know I need to find a good dealer, and get those books before I go too far.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello, and tell you that I'll be needing a lot of help and advice as this is the first IH product I've had for quite a while. In fact, the last one I worked on was a 1206 back in '71, so this one is bit different in size!

Thanks in advance,

Frank-in-Tallahassee

Yes, your cub is a 48, but the grill is wrong for that year. It has about a 60 model grill. Try antigue tractor auctions for parts. There are also several good salvage yards in Alabama. Try rjoauction.com for upcoming auction.

Short story. My Grandfather's WC Allis sat outside, unused, for about 20 years. Motor stuck, rusty, etc. Hauled it home. Bought a gallon of WD40. (Wife looking over my shoulder said 10 gallons.) Every time I visited the shop I would spray every nut and bolt. Let the tractor set for close to a year. So far I haven't twisted off any bolts.

Frank; Your cub is a 1948 model, per the serial # and the other boys gave you some good advice...The tractor shed, under Farmall Cub, has some info, I've answered lots of questions there. My Cub, a 1959 model was also "seized" when I acquired it, thanks to WD-40, Marvel Mystery Oil and about three months of spraying, soaking and prying, I got everything working just fine.(Oops, did I mention that I had to overhaul the engine?) Right now it is busy mowing my daughter's pastures! Good source for a complete Cub manual (cost is $20.00) is; Intertec, P.O.Box 12901, Overland Park, Kansas, 66282-2901. Hope this helps! Jim
