aftermarket powersteering on Farmall H?

Years ago I helped an old farmer put some hay up in his barn. The H he used to move the wagons had a rather unique power steering set up which consisted of a hydraulic motor mounted to to the steering column between the throttle and the gage set (the column actually ran thru the hydraulic motor), some hydraulic hoses and some sort of a brace. I wonder to this day if it was something he fabricated or if it was a short-lived aftermarket experiment. I have yet to see anything like it.

Sounds like a Belhen unit. They were used on the 350 and 450 series tractors with the whole unit mounted under the hood. Charlynn offered a cleaner setup, the powersteering motor mounted under the hood infront of the temp and oil gages.

check out Force America. They still sell kits for the M.

Thanks Bob and Will! That clears up an old mystery for me. I should stop by that farmer and see if he has it yet. How much would that set up cost? I have an H I would like to add PS to.

In addition to Behlen, there were Char-Lynn units, which are still available.

Sounds like a Belen unit. A lot of them were sold and put on M's more than H's. They had them for other tractors too. The pump was between the distributor and timing gears. There was also a tank for oil.
