Hi all,

I've recently bought a '39 Farmall A, and was all set to drain and change the transmission/PTO oil. That is, until I discovered that the fill plug is what appears to be a 5/8" square female fitting. I have no tool to match this, and I've looked at every hardware store, catalog, and everywhere else I can think of (including the local tractor dealer), all to no avail.

Anybody got a clue on this? I've thought about finding some 5/8" bar stock and making a "T" handle type deal, but if I could find a ready-made tool I'd be happier.

Thanks!

Butch

I've always used a standard 1/2 inch drive socket breaker bar or ratchet.

My brother, a tool maker, made me one out of tool steel. I think it's about 9/16" if I remember right. Using the wrong size tool can burr up the plug and that looks real ugly. I too couldn't find anything to fit properly. Dave.

I used my breaker bar to get mine out. It's just a standard Craftsman breaker bar with a 5/8" that accepts standard sockets.
