Hi I checked my spark and its sparking like it should. But I have a question about the carb. It cranks over good and has good spark, but the carb drips even when the plugs arnt wet. I had it rebuilt this winter and when I first started the tractor after the overhaul I adjusted it so it would idle down. Now the tractor wont restart and drips when plugs are dry, why is this? Is there a way to adjust my timing just a little with out taking distributer off and pulling the shaft out and turning it? Thanks
Matt

If the carburetor drips while the engine is stopped, it is probably because the needle and seat are not sealing properly. Might be float adjustment or a small piece of dirt on the needle.

There is an adjustment for the timing on the end of the distributor. Loosen the holding clamp and rotate accordingly. If the engine performs good, I would think twice about messing with the timing.

To improve starting, you might want to double check your spark plug gap. Recommended gap is 0.025” but I have used 0.030” successfully, and they start a bit better.

Let's fix the carb problem first. Sounds like the needle valve is stuck open or partially open or the float is set to high. You probably have something stuck under the needle valve.

Try draining the carb. See if that won't dislodge the material. You might rap lightly on the side of the carb while draining it. If that doesn't work remove the carb from the tractor. Take the top off the carb and check the needle valve and seat for junk. Check the float level.

I have put inline fuel filters on all of my tractors.

Adjusting the timing. Loosen the distributor bracket and rotate the distributor. My guess is that the tractor is in time. I would not adjust the timing until I had solved the carb problem.

Go to one of the tractor/farm supply stores and purchase an IT manual for the tractor. $30.00 well spent.
