I have a 1952 H that has been converted to 12 volts. I replaced the on/off ignition switch because I was told by the previous owner it was bad. The switch still does not work. The only way to stop the motor is to shut off the fuel. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

For a coil ignition, the switch should be closed in the pulled position and open in the in position. (opposite of a mag.)

Was the conversion done with a generator or a GM alternator? On the alternator conversion, if the switch is not wired correctly, there is a power feed back from the alternator through the coil which will keep the engine running even though the switch is in the off position. Reply to this if you need more info on what to look for and how to wire this.

The switch needs to be open when pulled out and closed contact when pushed in. The swich should be grounded to the frame and one wire to the magneto. When the switch is pushed in it grounds the magneto and kills the spark. That is how mine is. Coil ignition may be different
