Farmall H - From Rust To Red

Thanks to all of you that answered my questions. That, along with the information I found on this site’s archives and the few manuals I bought, I was able to take it apart and fix or replace the various components, from the PTO shaft to the bolster.

Some of the repairs included new bushings, bearings, oil seals and gaskets for the; Bull gear, axle, transmission, clutch shaft, bolster, operator’s seat, water pump, front hubs, governor, governor shaft, PTO and various other locations to include two missing gaskets I noticed in the distributor. I was amazed at the number of felt washers that are used on a Farmall.

Some items I replaced with new components to include; Water jacket plate. Steering wheel. Seat bushings, shock and spring. Temperature gauge.

All of the old water, oil and gas was flushed from the system and their passages cleaned.

The radiator was boiled and pressure tested. Carburetor rebuilt. Headlights and rear lights were dismantled, cleaned, painted and now put out a nice bright light. All wiring was replaced with a Brillman wiring harness.

I kept the 6-volt system but changed over to negative ground and replaced the generator with a 6-volt alternator that fits nicely under the hood.

And while I did use IH red to paint the tractor, I didn't paint everything I saw. The wiring, hoses, clamps, bolts, etc., were not painted. Also, the grease zerts were not painted, although they were all replaced with new ones. If a part or piece wasn't replaced or repaired, I didn't paint it, although it was cleaned. The front wheels were painted, but not the rear ones, as I haven't had them apart yet.

I now have the Lift-all pump dismantled and cleaned, and am waiting on new springs, seals and gaskets for it so I can put it back together and install it.

Since the motor sounded good, no smoke, etc., I didn't do anything with it, which is why the head wasn't painted. I did adjust the valves though. If I need to remove the head later on I'll paint it then.
