I'm going to an auction this weekend to look at a 656 Hydro Diesel. I would just like to get a rough idea what it's worth, and what to look at before I bid. There is also a 806 up for bids, but i think the 656 would be plenty big enough for my needs, plus it's newer.

Thanks

You guys must be like my nephew he would not have one of them things I keep telling he would like it after having a 4010 that I said he would not like he and his dan got a 100 hydro, after about a year I asked him if I was right or not, he said he would shut the gut that tried to take it, Best baler trator and choper and loader tractor. Also good tractor on the road for hauling grain to town the load will not push the tractor and over rev the engine like a gear drive. As for a 656 gear and a 656 hydro the gear drive will out work the hydro in litter going but in heaver gonig the hydro will out work the gear because don't have to shift as much as the TA. I know of more than I that only had hydros and loved them

Aces: Have you ever heard the term, " Watch the pennies and the dollars will look out for themselves", or, " Nickel and Dime you to death." Hydro, more fuel, more repairs and more down time.

These tractors, even the gear drives are now 30+ years old. Very rarely are the ones that had excellent maintainence ever for sale.

Had a Hydro 70 at one time. When they told me the hydro cost $6000 to overhaul I sold it and got another gear drive. It also used more fuel than a 806 (both diesel) and would do not much more work than a Farmall H when you were pulling a vibra shank or trying to pull a offset disk.
Very ineffecinet

Tim: I took a look at these hydros 30 years ago when they were new. I looked more than once. Finally I went with a 656 diesel gear drive. As a buyer and user of new tractors, I felt the hydro was just not efficient enough. Unless I had a vegetable farm requiring precission seeding and harvesting just not worth it.

Some will try to tell how much more productive they are baling hay. Many, many times I have baled 3,500 to 4,500 bales per day using a bale thrower and 300, 560 or 656 on the baler. You try for anymore than that with a hydro, can't be done on a regular basis.

When I needed a tractor for shuttle work, I went to Deere power shift. 13,000 hours and no repairs to engine or transmission. Hydro will cost you as much every 5,000 hours as you are going to pay for that 656.

Yup thats the farm. i live about 5 miles from there. he took good care of his tractors. the 806 just got a new paint job. I don't think the 656 got worked hard. the hy-dro wasn't really made for tillage work. when a hy-dro goes bad it costs a good bit of money when they go.i think you'd be better off with the 806. but what ever u think would be better for you. e-mail me if u have questions.
