I'm looking to farm somewhere between 5 and 20 acres. Which FARMALL model would you suggest. I'm not looking for speed; I don't need to be done "today." Older, used models are O.K. with me. I had a FARMALL H that we used to haul pulpwood. What are your ideas and why are you suggesting such a model. By the way, I have never farmed before; this is all new to me, and I am eager to try.

I need to add to my last post. I would determine which tractor dealers are located within a 30 mile radius. Determine which make of tractor is most popular in you area. Reason: Parts, service and more importantly information would be readily available.

By all means get a tractor with a 3-point hitch. Suggest something in the 30 HP range. One of the low boys or industrial models would be very handy.

I started out farming 65 acres of corn and Improved Pinto Beans with a 140 (1 row). Took a while to get things done. Later I bought an H with 2 row planters/cult. What took 3 days to do with the 140, took only 1 with the H. Now I have an M but no longer farming. Look at what you want to plant, then look to see what is out there in the way of A, C/SC, or H. They all will get the job done.

Charles: Like cowman I think the H would be a good choise. However you do say had, so I assume you don't have the H anymore. I am going to ask a few questions, no just one. What are you going to grow on the 5 to 20 acres? That will determine more than any other factor what you need for a tractor.

If you stay on the low side, say 5 to 10 acres, a C or Super C would be good. Popular tractor so parts and implements are plentyfull. Should run you around $2000 for a good one. If your going to do the full 20 acres an H or a 300 would get it done faster. Those are popular also so the parts and implements are available. Should be able to get these for about the same price. All of these come in wide front or narrow front. Dave.

The H would be a good choice.
