Can someone tell me how to check the transmission oil level on my 1941 H? I would kindly appreciate it, since I've only had the tractor for about 6 years, hauled kids on the 4th of July all that time on unknown oil level (it's always slightly dripped from the rear seal, so I figured it still had oil), and I'm a MORON. I'm a brain surgeon, rocket scientist, Nobel laureate, and there's nothing on the planet I don't know... but I can't for the life of me figure out how the devil to check the transmission oil level on a 1941 H, and I'm standing here with the specimen in question and all its glory, nekked for the purpose... and I still can't find it! Thanks

Go easy on yourself there!! You're NOT a moron....if you were you wouldn't be worrying about tranny lubrication!!

With that aside, look for a square head pipe plug on the left side of the transission, in front of the brake cover and about 1/3 of the way of from the bottom of the transmission. Unscrew that plug - oil should be to the level of the bottom of that opening.

If you need to add (sounds like you will...) the fill port is the large flat plug with a recessed square drive in the tranny deck. Alternatively you can knock the pin out that holds the shift lever, remove the lever and then pour the oil in there.

Good luck, and don't be surprised if that dipping seal drips more after you add oil to the transmission. (Don't ask how I might know...)

RKS, Just in front of the clutch pedal is a plug that you can remove to check the oil level. I recommend that you drain some from the rear end first because the tractor tends to gather water in the rear end. Just take the plug that is below the PTO out carefully and the water will come out before the oil. You need to have let the tractor set for a day or so to get the oil seperated from the water. After the water stops flowing, put the drain plug back in and fill it up with oil using the plug in front of the clutch pedal as the fill indicator. Hope this helps, Bob
