Spark Plug Opinion

My Farmall 400 has worn valve guides. I don't have the money to tear it down right now. The tractor has good power and pulls fine. However, it fouls spark plugs at the worst of times. I have tried Champion D21, D18, AC, C87, and Auto Lights. They all foul. Has anyone ever tried a Champion D23 and had some success? Or, do I need to buy special inserts and run automotive plugs? Hopefully someone has had some experience with this or had the same problem and fixed it. Thanks in advance.

I used D23s in a SMTA that fouled plugs. Found out the camshaft was chipped on the end where the gear attached so it was out of time most of the time. Anyway I don't think there is anything comparable to the D23 though dealers will say some others are the same. The D23 has a really long base, different from others. They are usually expensive compared to others but don't seem to foul. Worked for a JD dealer for several years. We usually recommended the D23 for older As and Bs. Give them a try, if you foul those you will foul anything.

The only real fix is to pull the engine down and fix it.

You can replace the valve seals without removing the head if your adventurous.
Either the old indian rope trick or using a air hose adapter in the spark plug hole will work.
